Town & Cities
is the leading revenue partner for hotels in Emerging Markets. Founded in 2014, we help more than 6,000 hotels in 27 countries boost occupancy, and increase yield.
Revenue management in the digital era is an advanced science. That is why we only hire the best resources in Africa, to help our partner hotels realize their full potential in a world where tourism has moved almost entirely online.
In 2013, Håvar Bauck and Endre Opdal, two former college mates from BI Norwegian Business School in Norway, found themselves living in the same neighbourhood in Nairobi, a decade after graduating. Being frequent travelers, they saw an obvious gap in the market: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was a major aviation hub, with no budget hotels nearby. Lacking significant investable funds, they leased five budget apartments in a residential estate in Syokimau, and marketed their concept on Booking.com and Expedia, as an airport apartments hotel. The concept was a success, and their apartment hotel was fully booked from the first month.
The success of their initial side hustle inspired them to launch a more ambitious project, to help East African hotels with their online marketing. That project became what we know as HotelOnline today.
Our operations help local hospitality businesses thrive across 27 African countries. By enabling local-owned businesses to stand out, we help drive investments and job creation in an increasingly vibrant tourism sector, while bringing out the immense diversity in the continent’s hotel industry.
In 2019, Intro Africa made the video Transforming Africa’s Hotel Industry, in cooperation with HotelOnline. The video focuses on the rise of high-quality, independent hotels across the continent, and is a great reflection of the values that HotelOnline represents.
